Summer Day Camp was conducted in 2011 at the Palmaro and Coudert Clubhouses, both Housing Authority sites, and both homeless shelters. In all we enrolled 511 youngsters in structured and supervised programming from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm for seven weeks. Breakfast, lunch and a snack are provided.
We also transported 1,500 Day Campers (they made multiple visits) to Camp Sebago, our rustic haven on Lake Sebago in Harriman State Park. Other field trips are made to the Bronx Zoo, Museum of Natural History, Lake Compounce in Connecticut, et al..
Each program ends with a culminating event in the form of a performing arts variety show by the campers at a banquet for parents and family members. Another very special event this year was a track and field Olympics for all sites at Stevenson High School field, a splendid facility refurbished under the very successful “Take the Field” program. Each site made a banner and created and performed their own cheer.
Thanks to all Kips Bay donors who contributed to this year’s Summer Appeal.
