Physical Recreation Castle Hill Center The Positive Place for Kids

Here at Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club Castle Hill Unit our athletic department consists of many different sports and out-door games. Our children learn the basics of most sports. With that knowledge they can choose to continue to learn and play that specific sport. The sports and outdoor games that we offer are: basketball, volleyball, soccer, kickball, relay racing, dodge ball, waffle ball, fag-football. These are common games that most people know about. We also have a few games which aren’t that common: freeze ball, overtake, American eagle, three point knock-out.

We also run a separate program in conjunction with the New York Road Runners called “Mighty Milers”. We set a 60 mile goal every year for each child in the program. Every day the children come to the gym they are required to run five laps around the gym. Five laps is the equivalent of ¼ of a mile. We input the miles on the Mighty Miler database which keeps track of each child’s individual progress. Children are then rewarded for different milestones they achieve. At the end of the year if the child has achieved the 60 mile goal, he/she is given a gold medal and a certificate among other prizes. We also participate in the Jamboree which is hosted by the New York Road Runners. Our children compete in different track and field events against children from around the city.
