“Homeless children frequently have their educations interrupted, suffer from poor self-esteem, and are at increased risk for teen pregnancy and criminal behavior.  Instilling self-esteem and a drive to succeed is imperative to preventing homelessness in the next generation.”

”Every HELP USA family residence has varied and extensive programs to support young people, from early childhood education and daycare to after school programs and mentoring.  Children who participate in these programs gain a sense of stability and self-worth, and are better able to focus on their educations to realize a brighter future.”(www.HELPUSA.org)

Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club is  proud to collaborate with HELP USA on this effort.  We operate two HELP sites, HELP Morris and HELP Crotona.  These sites are open 5 days a week, on weekends for special events and trips, and on all school holidays.  Registration is ongoing for the afterschool program from October to May, every Monday at 7:00 pm.

Youngsters between the ages of 6 to 18  benefit from a comprehensive afterschool program  that encompasses a full range of services designed to boost their development.  Upon arrival, they are greeted and provided with a healthy snack and interactive games and activities where children get to unwind while  staff engage the youngsters to chat about their day or what’s on their minds.  That is immediately followed by Power Hour, a comprehensive homework help and tutoring program for all members. Power Hour provides members with the support, resources and guidance necessary to complete their homework and become self-directed learners.  This allows them to start the following school day with a sense of confidence and ability. Youngsters are then feed a warm meal and engaged in programs that will stimulate their interests including Computer Lab, Arts & Crafts, Cooking, Dance, Physical Education, Creative Writing, Computer Games, Reading and more.

Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club also provides Summer Day Camp.   Our summer day camp serves ages 6-12 years. The program runs five days a week, Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm. Registration takes place early May of each year. The children are given camp shirts in various colors per age group. Monday-Thursday and every other Friday all campers attend trips. On the Friday we are on site the children are placed in their groups where they have to follow a daily in house schedule. Every year in the summer program we follow a theme and the children put on a show and display all of their art work from the summer.
